Supplier Spotlight: Lyburn Farm
No other places to eat in the New Forest get this close to nature…
When it comes to food, there is certainly a lot on offer in the New Forest. Restaurants can access nature’s larder whenever they wish and here at The Bell Inn were wholly committed to local provenance and we have made sure to only select suppliers that we know, love and trust.
Situated in the bottom of the valley lies the Hamptworth Estate – here you will find Lyburn Farm. Expert cheesemakers, we are delighted to source our cheeses from them as their cows are pedigree, home-bred and most of all, happy!
The farm is approximately 500 acres and boasts a select dairy herd of 170 cows. The family has been running Lyburn since 1969 and are more than happy to adjust their techniques with the times; most of the electricity that they use for cheesemaking is generated by solar power and they only use vegetarian rennet in their cheeses.
Much like the community of the New Forest, producing cheese is a team effort and one that we totally respect. Of the 1.3 million litres of milk that is produced by the Lyburn cows, 50% becomes the delicious cheese we know and love.
