Cancelled Your Wedding in 2020? Look Forward to 2021

We’re in the middle of a crisis. Naturally, a few things are on hold – weddings included. Sadly, many 2020 wedding celebrations have been cancelled at venues around the world. But there’s going to be plenty to look forward to next year and we’re sharing our ideas and plans for great weddings in 2021.

What Can Couples Do?

Wedding season is coming up fast. Anxious couples have been scrambling to see if their wedding can go ahead as planned, or whether they will be forced to postpone or cancel.

The majority of venues and suppliers are allowing couples to postpone, relaxing rules and contracts in this strange and unusual time. Still, not all dates are going to line up.

At The Bell, we’re able to provide just about everything couples need for their big day and so, apart from changing dates, many of our couples haven’t been too affected.

Some couples are sending out Change the Date cards. It’s a sweet reminder of their new wedding date, and it keeps everyone connected and looking forward to a special day when this is all over.

It’s not going to work for everyone, but there’s always wedding insurance. Some insurers include a basic version in household policies – so check yours if you’re unsure – but it may only cover contents, like gifts and dresses.

Even with a full policy, wedding insurance and COVID-19 is a bit of a grey area right now. It depends on what your policy specifically covers – but a typical wedding insurance policy will cover:

  • Venue bankruptcy or cancellation
  • Supplier failure
  • Cancellation if a key guest can’t attend for health reasons
  • Personal liability and legal expenses
  • Lost, stolen or damaged goods

Whether either of these fall under the current crisis we’re facing is up to your particular insurance underwriter’s interpretation – so if you have wedding insurance, get in touch with your insurer to find out.

If your wedding venue has cancelled your date due to COVID-19, then you should be covered – and if you need a new place to celebrate your wedding, we can help.
