Commoner Tom’s New Forest Walks

NEW DATE ADDED…

Friday June 7th – 9.30am

Tom Hordle is an enterprising young farmer and one of the younger Commoners to be grazing his herd of Hereford cattle here in the New Forest.

Tom who featured in the popular TV show ‘A year in the New Forest’ is passionate about the forest and has been building his own beef enterprise since he was a teenager and today runs a suckler herd that roam freely in the National Park. Here at the Inn we share this passion and collaborated last year exclusively to feature his forest bred and forest fed beef on our menu.

We are delighted to be continuing our collaboration with Tom as we team up with him to host his NEW ‘Commoners Walks’.   This is a unique opportunity to learn what is so special about the way the New Forest is managed and continually evolving  plus delve deeply into the reality of how practising commoners live and work. Based on the western fringe of the forest, a few miles north of Ringwood in Hampshire, Tom exercises his common rights of pasture to turn out free roaming cattle on to the 90,000 acres of open New Forest.  The forest walking experience is designed as a stroll across beautiful forestry, among grazing cattle and new forest ponies.  You will stumble across some of Toms hand reared cattle, visit his farm and meet ‘Harold’ the bull whilst gaining a really clear understanding of the importance of the ancient tradition of ‘commoning’ and how it is essential to shape and maintain the forest today.

The walk includes a hearty 2 course lunch in our award winning farmhouse style restaurant:  Hand Raised Tom Hordles Beef, Ale and Wild Mushroom Pie, Buttered New Potatoes, Purple Sprouting Broccoli and Asparagus.  Followed by Jack Flack Chocolate Cake with Malted Caramel, Chocolate Sauce and Malt Ice Cream
